Plan

The Federation Grid (FG) is an open collaborative project inviting corporate, academic and government participation. The Federation Grid is a "fractal" grid consisting of many smaller grids which have adopted an interoperability strategy based on the US Department of Defense (DoD) High Level Architecture (HLA) for modeling and simulation.

This site is intended to present the vision and provide early release of software components and tools which support the concept.

The objectives of the Federation Grid project are:

  • To develop an HLA-compliant hierarchical federation architecture which extends from the entire Federation Grid down to multi-agent software engines implemented as single-process federations.
  • To support the hierarchical federation concept through formal modeling of Virtual Organization (VO) content and relationships into "Realms" using an HLA-compatible meta-modeling language.
  • To develop an Extensible Modeling and Simulation Framework (XMSF) defined as a set of Web-based technologies applied within an extensible framework that enables a new generation of modeling & simulation (M&S) applications to emerge, develop, and interoperate.
  • To develop a Collaborative Metaprogramming Framework (CMF) paradigm which includes grid services and user software supporting rapid team authoring of new products using very high-level meta-programming languages.
  • To demonstrate integration of grid "Realms" into a Federation Grid and to invite existing grids to become part of Federation Grid.
  • To productise the Federation Grid software components on behalf of participating partners who may own them individually or collectively.
